The arrests were made at approximately 4:15 p.m., roughly four hours after the shooting occurred, and all three are being held on probable-cause murder charges, according to Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn. The suspects have not yet been formally identified or charged as of the time of this update.

The shooting occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in the 3300 block of West 66th Street near Southdale Center in Edina. Officers responded to the scene and found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. Bystanders were already performing CPR when first responders arrived, according to initial radio dispatches. Despite life-saving efforts by both bystanders and arriving officers, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:40 p.m. The victim has not yet been publicly identified pending notification of next of kin.

The shooting triggered a massive and coordinated law enforcement response from multiple agencies across the Twin Cities metro area. In addition to Edina police, officers from Eden Prairie and St. Louis Park responded to the scene, along with SWAT teams, K-9 units, and the Minnesota State Patrol. State Patrol flight support was also requested and deployed, and troopers set up traffic detours around the surrounding area as investigators worked the scene and searched for the three suspects who initially fled on foot.

As a precautionary measure, Southdale Center mall, M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital, and several nearby businesses were placed on lockdown while the manhunt was underway. Those lockdowns have since been fully lifted following the arrests of the three men. Shoppers, staff, and hospital patients and workers were asked to shelter in place during the search, creating a tense and frightening afternoon for the Edina community.

Investigators said they believe the victim and the three suspects knew each other and that the shooting was not a random act. Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn confirmed the incident was targeted in nature, which may provide some reassurance to the broader public that the shooting did not represent a threat to uninvolved community members. A formal investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing, and formal charges are expected to be filed against the three men in the coming days.
